Summer won’t end until we let it.
One of our first events of this year was an impromptu Portuguese dinner in early May, something about the change in seasons seems to take us back there. To humble tables at local tascas and tabernas, paper tablecloths, and pared back dishes that always seem to be much more than the sum of their parts. I’ve always found there to be a wisdom in that simplicity that creates magic.
So, a week on Saturday, the 11th of October, we’ll be opening for an extended series of lunches inspired by those occasions, serving a menu do dia of four courses with a glass of wine or beer for £38.
On the table on arrival will be a carafe of white or red from the Douro and a sardine from the Bay in escabeche, followed by a warming soup of ray wing, garlic & coriander, and finishing with saltfish ‘A Braga’ - fried hake preserved on the last tide when the fish was abundant, and served with potatoes and the last of the season’s peppers from Slight Hill Farm. There will also be the debut of another incredibly satisfying and deceptively simple dessert that sous-chef Al has been working on - Leite Frito with local apples.
We want to preserve some of the energy that our busy season of events has generated, so we’re keeping the price lower and offering four booking times throughout the day. If the sun shines we’d love for you to stay for bottle of Super Bock or a white port and tonic to see out the afternoon on the terrace, and for those who haven’t booked the lunch we’ll have a glass of wine and a snack on the bar menu for £10, no booking necessary.
Seating at 12, 1.45, 3.30 & 5.15 - Please fill in our booking form below with your preferred time to reserve your spot, and we will get back to you by phone to confirm the reservation and take payment. Bookings will be secured once we have taken payment, and tickets are non-refundable.
