Christmas Hampers - Argoe at Home 2025
We have always closed the restaurant after the last fish auctions of the year in late December. Without fresh fish from the South West markets Argoe just wouldn’t be Argoe. We started our winter hamper deliveries to help get you through those dark winter nights after we close our doors, and keep you well fed over the Christmas break. We’re pleased to say we’ve created another beautiful hamper for 2025!
A little something from the Cornish coast, via our kitchen, to your dining table. Preserving the final landings of 2025, we’ll be braising, smoking and pickling to create an Argoe larder for your home. This year’s hamper will be a ‘Feast of The Seven Fishes,’ to be enjoyed, as is tradition, on Christmas eve. Seven individual dishes, each centred around a different fish, to create one spectacular spread for four, or for two to enjoy over several occasions.
The boxes will showcase some of our fantastic growers, farmers and fishermen - the foundation of what we do at Argoe.
This year we have pot caught octopus from the inshore waters around West Penwith, capturing the beautiful simplicity of the Spanish kitchen in a satisfying dish of roasted Octopus & Potatoes; Potted Mackerel & Coombeshead Mangalitza Rillettes, bringing together the catch of Newlyn’s mackerel men with fat rendered from Tom’s thoughtfully reared pigs up in the north of the county. A perfect foil for Angus’ freshly baked bread - ready to refresh in the oven at home; Sous chef Al has fired up the smoker, recalling his family roots in the Scottish smokehouse, to cold smoke some beautiful horse mackerel (or scad as it is known here). Simply sliced and enjoyed as crudo, we’re very happy with the results; It has become tradition for some of the last of summer’s spoils from Slight Hill Farm to feature on the menu - this year grilled and preserved peppers appear alongside handline caught squid in a fresh seafood salad. See below for the full menu.
As much care and respect has gone into bringing these ingredients into our kitchen as they receive once here. This produce is a true representation of the Cornish landscapes around us – natural and respectful food production using traditional methods.
We hope you’ll enjoy this year’s menu, and thank you for all of your wonderful support throughout 2025, wishing you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all at Argoe.
Though we suggest that you enjoy your hamper on Christmas eve (what better than a seafood feast before the customary festive eating begins!) we will send nearly all of the items in packaging suitable for freezing, so that you can curate your menus according to your plans and who you’ll be entertaining. Most items will arrive frozen and can be put straight in the freezer and stored until required. If you plan to feast on the 24th, simply allow it all to thaw slowly in the fridge ready for the day.

We know how much some of you love our fish soup, so it is available again this year as an addition to the menu - and would make a fantastic start to the feast, if you’re feeling particularly decadent and have some friends to share with. It serves two and can be frozen if you’d prefer to keep it for a later date.
We also have a limited number of Brown Crab Gratins, ready for the oven. We’ve cooked and picked some spectacular 3-4 kilo crabs from Harvey’s, mixed together the white and brown meat with a sofrito of leeks, tomato and sherry and packed into the shell of a smaller crab with a breadcrumb topping. Alongside a salad and some bread (and probably a glass or two of chilled txakoli!) it would make a stunning and stress free dinner for two. The recipe is based on a classic Basque dish of spider crab, and was one of the highlights of a special dinner we held in June celebrating dishes from the region.
Full information on product shelf life will be included in the box, alongside reheating and serving instructions and allergen information. Due to the nature of our small kitchen and the fact we regularly work with shellfish and other major allergens, unfortunately we will not be able to guarantee the complete absence of such foods in our dishes.
We have endeavoured as always to reduce the environmental impact of what we do, and will be packaging the dishes in a mixture of compostable vacuum seal bags, jars and paper wrapping, all within naturally insulated cardboard boxes from Woolcool.
